Sin

Growing up in a religious home, sin was always a large part of my life growing up. Whenever i was punished or did something wrong, it was always explained to me that the reason it was wrong was because it was a sin, and sins were against God's wishes and frowned upon by him. These sins were my moral compass for a long time, helping me to decide what was right and what was wrong. However, as I got older I started to think more about why these sins are so bad. After all, if I was cleansed of all my sins if I had accepted Jesus as my savior, then couldn't sin as much as I wanted and it be okay? In the book of Romans, it states  "What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace might increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?". However, it never really explains why we must follow these specific guidelines. My sense of sin has shifted over the years, and I believe that Augustine's extreme sense of sin made his philosophy so stern. After all, we are all only human and all make mistakes; and what is a mistake for somebody might not be one for somebody else. H3
