When first asked, "do each of us have an essence," I was extremely puzzled. First of all, what is the definition of essence? My mind immediately went to the essence of food and the flavors that are most prominent in a particular dish. The definition of essence is the intrinsic nature or indispensable quality of something, especially something abstract, that determines its character. Parallel to food, an individual’s essence is his or her distinguished characteristics- those of which if you lost, you would cease to exist.
I believe each and everyone of us possesses an essence. Imagine a candid photograph; what did the camera capture? An image of one’s most vulnerable self displays his or her essence. And this essence is never lost. When one dies, his or her footprint has already been made, impacting the world in a never ending cycle.
