Our national disease

I really enjoyed today's This I Believe reports (and was enjoying the Pop Culture reports too, to be continued next Wednesday). With all the talk of money, goals, happiness, and "success," I thought it might be relevant to mention William James's famous statement on the subject. He was writing to H.G. Wells in 1906. Still rings true, no?

“The moral flabbiness born of the exclusive worship of the bitch-goddess SUCCESS. That -with the squalid cash interpretation put on the word 'success' - is our national disease."

It's quite a letter. Read the whole thing here.
