Section 9 Group 1 (42) Midterm Project

Jordan, Jason, Seta, and I decided to make a music video over some of the philosophers we have discussed in class for our report.

Socrates Lyrics: (to "Barbie Girl" tune)

Hey Soc!
Hey Plato!
Do you wanna go for a walk?
Sure Soc!
Let’s Go!

I am Socrates!  I’ll pester you indeed!
Life in Athens, yields lots of questions!
I’ll never brush my hair, ‘cause frankly I don’t care
I’ll make the case that, your life is vacant!

C’mon Socie, let’s beat sophists!

I am Socrates!  I’ll lecture you for free!
While not the wisest, I am enlightened
I’ll never brush my hair.  Let’s question if we care
Life unexamined is cognitive famine!

I’m an old, haggard male in a fantasy world
Life is not what it seems, my darling
You are down in a cave, break your chains away
Let’s ascend, to the light, walk with me

            (Let’s Stroll) (X 2)

I am Socrates!  You’ll find me walking in Greece
Part of my method, is to be intrepid
Come and talk to me, engage me if you please
To be Socratic, is so fantastic

            (C’mon Socie, Let’s go walking!
                        Oh-Oh Yeah!)  (X 4)

C’mon walk, let’s all talk, peripatetically
We can get to the heart of your hardheaded beliefs
C’mon friend, let’s dig in, what’s your theory again?
Break it down, let’s expound, pedagogy

            (C’mon Socie, Let’s go walking!
                        Oh-Oh Yeah!)  (X 4)

I am Socrates! Divine emissary
If you seek virtue, nothing can hurt you
Democracy is fair, but frankly I don’t care
They didn’t hear me, now they revere me

I am Socrates!  I’ll pester you indeed
Life in Athens, yields lots of questions
I’ll never brush my hair, ‘cause frankly I don’t care
I’ll make the case that, your life is vacant

            (C’mon Socie! Let’s go walking!
                        Oh-Oh Yeah!)  (X 4)

Pyrrho Lyrics: (to Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song)

Now is this a story all about how
Pyrrho got his wits all turned around?
Don’t take for granted
Just sit right there
And I’ll tell you about delusion and how you shouldn’t have a care

In Ancient Greece born and raised
On Elis was where I tried expanding my ways
No paying taxes ‘cause philosophers are cool
And as a skeptic, dogma makes me drool
Where a couple of friends who were nothing but good
Tried looking out for me any way they could
I looked at one little cliff, and they got scared!
They said, “There are rocks at the bottom if you get air!”

I looked up to the sky and contemplated life
And I said to myself, “What are things really like?”
I was pondering what it took to really be happy
And I said “just forget it” – “worrying would just be crappy!”

I decided firm beliefs required delusion
And that just to too much confusion
It was then that I realized
Nothing really mattered
And if you fell off a cliff, would you really get splattered?

Cicero Lyrics: (to "Firework" by Katy Perry)

Do you ever feel
Unoriginal
Just walk in my shoes
All I do is write prose

Do you ever feel
That to get ahead
You must reproduce
Works from those who are dead

Do you ever feel
That your philosophy
Is to compensate
For your failings politically

Do you know that there’s
Just no chance for me
My life’s a tragedy
I just gotta

Rewrite some Greek
Philosophy
I aim to please
To boost my self esteem

‘Cause baby, I am Cicero
My thoughts aren’t original
Make them go “oh, oh, oh”
This guy really writes great prose (‘ose, ‘ose)

Baby, I am Cicero
I spread Greek teachings in Rome
Make them go “oh, oh, oh”
His philosophy is so cool (‘ool, ‘ool)

Ooh, ooh, ooh
Philosophy is so cool (‘ool, ‘ool)
(Repeat 2X)

We should also note what each of us did, I believe that was required.

Jason - Song lyrics, video performance (dancing?), philosopher research, and vocals.

Jordan - Song lyrics, video performance, philosopher research, and moral support.

Katie - Song lyrics, video performance, philosopher research, vocals, and video editing.

Seta - Song lyrics (not used due to technical difficulties), video performance (really awesome dancing), and philosopher research.

Special thanks to Bruce Vaughn, Jose Mier, Justin Vaughn, Leo Castillo, and Spencer Perry for helping to make the video possible.
