Hakuna Matata: Keith Ward Sec19Group3

We began our discussion today by defining Idealism and that it is the idea that you have to have a thought of something before it can actually exist. The western Idealism was more about the materialism rather then the thought of spiritual. Eastern Idealism is more of a strict spiritual thought over materialsim. We then tried to determine what Vedantans are. Vendantans say that something is true because scripture says it is true. Neovedenta say that it is true because someone has experienced it or you have experienced it yourself. Some of us thought the whole choice between spiritual and material is useless. The point is that it is there. Ward says that the ethics are what is important and how they are different in each ideals. The difference in his eyes was that we really aren't different people it is more mutual and unity. And his point about Idealism is more about how you live. Either in Unity or isolated and separated.

I am once again with section 13 group 3. But i think if we could get away with the western thought of materials being greater than that of spirituality or just community thought this world would be greater.

I'm with section 13 too but our guy isn't posting. I think the whole idea of idealism is pretty dumb. Obviously if things are there then they exist. But I guess I'm like more of a realist.

Why do we discuss the meaning of life if honestly we are living so it doesnt really matter?

  4. I feel like idealism is one of the more confusing topis we have talked about lately. But I guess it did give a different perspective to how we percieve things, though I just dont see the point into thinking so deeply about whether an object is spiritually there first.
    Questions on Stoic pragmatism 1-27:
Factual- John Lachs believed the bafflement within philosophy would mean that it would always be around. Tor F? True
Discussion- Why do you think philosophers feel constricted within universities?

I guess I'm more of a pragmatist because I find Idealism to be of little importance to the here and now demands of life.
F: Uncovering new truths is what philosophy does best. T/F? T
D: Lach claims the U.S. would be a better nation if we had a Council of Ethics staffed by philosophers. Do you agree?
