Hakuna Matata sec19Group3 Neil

We first just summarized his thoughts of how people enjoy Tragedies. Our thoughts of why we do enjoy this type of story is because we know that it isn't real and it gives us an exciting experience that we wouldn't normally experience in real life. The feeling of suspension and sadness gives pleasure in a weird way. We were trying to decide weather Neil ever explained why he felt there can be pleasure in pain. In the end, Tragedy brings entertainment because the feelings of pity and fear gives you an experience that you wouldn't want or feel in real life. This new experience and knowing that what you are watching isn't real brings a type of pleasure.

  1. Neil's philosphy presented a new idea to me. The thought that humans enjoy tragedy is really ironic. Though I also see the entertainment factor of tragedy.

I think Neil's philosophy on the nature of "tragic" movies/plays and why humans find enjoyment out of them is very interesting. It brings to light a sort of dark comedy that we humans possess, but not really, for the fact that we are usually "suspending disbelief" during these tragic showcases, in essence accepting its fake, but joining the actors in the illusion of tragic circumstances.

Factual: Which region (East or West) is associated with the philosophy that all reality is made of matter/material objects?
    Answer: West
    Discussion: Idealism or Materialism? Explain.
