Section13 Group1 Wittgenstein

Hello Everyone,

Wittgenstein, Ludwig

This was a philosopher who of which I agree with when it comes to answering the questions that puzzle us.  The best answers are found when given the best possible question.  How often are the answers that we are given not the ones that we need or mislead?  Either way, in my belief, it is when a series of best possible questions lead to the best possible answers.

Question:  Did Ludwig believe that the barrier between satisfaction and answer lie in the language? Yes / No???   (Yes, he called it language games)

Discussion:  Could someone like Ludwig pose the right question or just identify the link as being a breakdown in questioning?  Open discussion.

I had a hard time grasping the ideas in this one. I guess maybe in discussion I'll understand a bit more.
Factual: There is no one common feature that explains all the uses of what? (Language)
Discussion: How do you think Ludwig would solve the "problem" he had with describing pain? What would be the correct way to do so, in his mind?

    Factual Question
What does Wittgenstein compare language to?
    a) Family
    b) Games
    c) Both A & B
    d) Philosophy
    e) Machines

    Answer: b) Both A & B

    Discussion Question:
When language does not fully convey meaning, as Wittgenstein suggests it often falls short of, what steps in to intercede and aid with effective communication? Gestures and movements? Facial Expressions and tonality?

Sorry for the late post, guys. I was medically indisposed this morning.
I think Wittgenstein is a brilliant man. He urges us to not waste our time with the books and throw them away. His extensive thought on language raises my own curiosity on the idea. It reminds me on a psychology experiment that I took part of recently that focused on how language and the use of words affects others differently.

F?-Even though Wittgenstein believed we shouldn't focus on the books, What was his first book?(tractatus logico-philosophicus)

D?-Can one really not have there own private language?

F: What was the first book he wrote? (Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus)
D: Many people today have made up words to describe certain things and their friends, and some other people, understand them by using context clues. Do you think this is something Wittgenstein named their private language?
