Hakuna Matata Sec19Group3 Singer

We all agree that Singers idea is great and that everyone should have a moral obligation to help world wide poverty. Though a lot of people are selfish or feel that if they can't see the suffering, then they shouldn't really care about it. We then talked about his idea of specieism, and how he believes we shouldn't do things to animals that we wouldn't do to humans.Though this is more of an opinion rather then a moral obligation. Some believe that animals are here for a force of food. Though we all agree the factory farming harsh conditions isn't right. We also talked about the over breeding of animals, for example horses. Sometimes putting an animal down may be necessary if it becomes over populated and they would end up suffering if they do live. Then we went deeper in our discussion about the ethics of putting an animal down and where to draw the line. In conclusion we are all disgusted with the mistreatment that third world countries have to endure along with animals in factory farms. Though it is hard to determine what our moral obligation is as a citizen.

Answer: We regard tragedy as a source of insight.

I found our discussion on Singer to be pretty fun, particularly where we got to talking about ethical hunting and food processing and whatnot.

F: True or False: Neill believes in the idea that the sole motivation for human action is the pursuit of pleasure.
    A: False.
D: What do you believe is the motivation for watching a tragedy? Pleasure? Pursuit of truth?
