Section 13 Group 2
In class on Thursday we discussed the philosopher Judith Jarvis Thomson. The main topic we focused on was her thought experiment where over night magically a famous violinist is attached to you and when you wake up, you have a decision to make. You can either keep them alive, or kill them. We feel Thomson was trying to make a connection to the present day debate about abortion. And and seems maybe a rape case. Though we thought that Thomson's argument was weak and a little strange we still had a good discussion on abortion, being pro-choice, or being pro-life. Usually this topic can a little sticky but our group seemed to agree on most things said.

Factual: Did Tomson think it was morally wrong to terminate the violin player if you woke up attached to him? (No)
ReplyDeleteDiscussion: Was Thomsons modification to Foot's thought experiment a good variation, or did it weaken the argument?
