The Aborted Violinist: Sec14 Grp2

Today's philosopher of interest was Judith Thomson, a woman who greatly helped a bunch of people view the subject of abortion from the perspective of a woman. She did this by comparing the fetus to a violinist, who had been surgically attached to you by the hip in order to treat his or her blood disease.

Naturally, the discussion today centered mostly around abortion, and surprisingly enough we never came to a consensus, even as class ended, but we agreed to disagree. Nothing much else happened today actually.

Question time!

Factual: Thomson's official stance on abortion as shown in the book was: NONE! The book never elaborated on her position on the matter.
Discussion: How do you think Schopenhauer, a previous philosopher who claimed that art was the only thing that made life worth living, would feel if he were planted in the violinist thought experiment?

Factual Question: What does a computer lack so therefore it truly cannot think? - semantics

Discussion Question: Do you agree on some extent, with some philosphers in the thinking that our brains are like computers?
