Section 14 Group 4

Sorry for the late post!!!  Couldn't figure out HOW to post.  This is why I am not the normal author.  Well here is our summary:

Alex: It was really hard to think of why we think certain things are gross.  It was normal for Older men in Greece to be with Younger Men, and there is really NO reason why it is wrong.  OUR society is the only thing that makes it gross, such as statutory rape laws.

Roberto:  Then you start to realize that nothing is abnormal.  Some things are just people's nature, even though it is different than the way WE might think.  It is hard to think about it like that.

Alex:  Teen Pregnancy!  We think that it is awful that the rates are going up now, where years ago girls in their teens would have DEFINITELY had children by now.

Drew: The reason 14 year old girls had kids then, they didn't have rights or jobs to do.  All they had was to have children. That's the reason it's gross now.  Women can make a lot more of themselves now.

Garrett: Back then, you were an adult when you could reproduce or swing a sword.  Now the idea is 18.  It's all about society's view.

Griffin: But when did things really start to change? When did society start changing their views on things?

Then we began talking about how ridiculous society is…which is a completely relevant topic btw.

All of the extra research we did all lead back to the Philosophy Bites podcasts.

We did some research to see the difference/comparisons between Biology and Philosophy and how natural and instinctual habits compared to society.

Isaiah: If you lose yourself to society, you get pulled into the little bubble like everyone else.

This was just a general summary of some of the things we talked about.  Seeing as I am not the author, it was a little weird trying to keep up with the conversations.  We spent a lot of our time talking about the different "Yuck Factors" of our present day society and WHY they are the way they are.  Most of it comes back to religion, government, and family/society raising.

once again a great group conversation, still enjoying it all.

i'd have something to say on Sandel's opinion of enhancement... but all podcasts have not been loading at all for the past two days...
