Autodidactic-Section 14 Group 1

Greetings All,
Today, Thursday,September 6,2012, in Intro to Philosophy, as Group 1, we discussed the results of our individual research completed the night before. Currently, our group's focus is still on that of Socrates,so what we all did was search the net and various other available resources to uncover interesting, and some controversial facts and quotes about the life of Socrates, that we initially had no clue of! For the majority of the discussion, we all went one right after the other reciting quotes and "philosophical jokes" that we came across while further investigating Socrates, the wise old man,as well as Socrates the brave leader. Furthermore, the members of Group 1 really emersed themselves into this particular philosophical discussion like never before. I am anticipating our very next meeting, in hopes that it will be as enriching as this one!

    Good Evening Everyone!
Our conversation on Thursday was very productive! I'm so excited that we are finally starting to "gel" as a group! I loved how we were able to look at all the sides of our Socrates research, we found the sadness, humor, facts, fiction, and I think gained a better understanding of his personality. In the end, I think we all found a way to relate to Socrates.
Moving on to Pyrrho, I his skepticism very interesting. The way someone can not really believe anything is almost crazy but completely understandable and slightly relatable at the same time. In our next class, I think we should try to answer Pyrrho's 3 questions that summarized his philosophy, "What are things really like? What attitude should we adopt to them? What will happen to someone who does adopt that attitude?" Another piece of the reading that jumped out at me was, "Any extreme sceptic needs the support of less skeptical people, or very good luck, to survive." I'm so excited for our discussions this week!
    See you all Tuesday!

    Hello errbody:)

Im not sure if we are supposed to use smiley faces but I just did! I had a lot of fun in our group discussion and I am glad we are all getting along and everything is just sorta flowing! Okay so about Socrates.. I love that he is very modest! And I love that Plato contemplates everything, like he really puts his mind to work! But I also love how Aristotle doesn't just sit around, I admire how he just gets out there and EXPLORES! I wish they we could just combine all three philosophers! Now that would be one great guy/girl!!
Cant wait to see yall on Tuesday!! :)

  3. Hello fellow Autodidactic members,
I recently finished the assigned reading on Pyrrho,Epicurus,Blackburn, and Sandel; however, our main focus is on that of Pyrrho. Pyrrho,Pyrrho,Pyrrho! If I had to choose one word to describe our chosen philosopher, it would be the term "strange"! If I had to choose a second word, it would be "eccentric"! Pyrrho's logic and philosophy were ludacris. I do personally believe that individuals should not believe everything that they see and hear, so in a way, I do accept a little skepticism;however, I don't take that belief to extremities. But anywho, I can't wait to listen to all of your interpretations involving the assigned reading in class tomorrow!

Hey guys! I posted last night but I forgot to add my questions. Sorry guys! What is Pyrrho's philosophy? And why do you think Pyrrho's philosophy differed so greatly from the philosophies of oter philosophers of the same time period? Thanks guys!
