Even if functionally we live within a deterministic universe (or, as the quantum physicists would have you believe, a probabilistic one) we still act and function as though we have a free will, and so I'd argue for a compatibilist view of the world, that is, that a deterministic universe and a free will are not mutually exclusive.
I agree with Mr. Lasseter. We are blissfully ignorant concerning our purpose, so I believe one should live under the principle that the decisions they make are of their own volition. Section 6

ReplyDeleteI came here to say something similar. Even if we don't have free will, there's no way to tell so you have to act as if one does.
