I AM MOTHER: article link has potential spoilers

One of my favorite movies that poses many philosophical questions! Our "A Good Place" post about killing one person to save 5 reminded me of a scene from the movie that poses a similar question. After all of humanity died from a virus, only an AI, Mother, and 1 human, Daughter, remain. Mother teaches Daughter valuable skills, essentially "training" her to completely re-create humanity's values and morals and essentially lead and create a "perfect" human population. Part of Daughter's training includes test questions about morality. In the movie Daughter is asked the same question--which is more morally correct? Mother encourages Daughter to leave out emotion and work solely off of logic. The movie as a whole poses even bigger philosophical questions that I can't mention without spoiling, but it's an amazing sci-fi thriller and would be a great thing to talk about in class!

  1. I haven't seen the movie, I did watch a trailer but didn't seem as exciting as you explained it. I'm definitely going to give it a shot. I appreciate it!!

  2. Leaving emotion out of our decisions is not the way to perfection unless perfection means not being human. We are emotional creatures. In fact, without emotion we would not exist. Without it we would not care about our own existence. What do you guys think? #11
