This makes a lot of sense. Humans as a species are parasites in everything but name. We take everything we can from anything we have the ability to, and the average person is too lazy to fix all the issues that we cause on our planet.
ReplyDeleteReads like an onion title, but it makes a round-about point. Honestly, just declare Elon Musk supreme director of things related to space for like, 20 years, and then we can build space habitats and live on Mars or whatever where there is no natural living environment to be disturbed and just vacation back on earth.
ReplyDeleteAfter all, nothing on Earth is particularly rare besides the life - Gold, water, hydrogen, uranium, everything is found in massive amounts in asteroids & elsewhere. There's even something that looks to be a diamond planet, but it may not be as high percent diamond as originally thought. https://www.space.com/23138-diamond-planet-super-earth-discovery.html
I understand this line of thinking, but I don't think it's realistic. Not that it's necessarily meant to be. Humans are ultimately too selfish to get rid of themselves even if they think it will save the earth. I know there are some people out there who think that humans have a right to use whatever they want because the earth belongs to us essentially, and that disturbs me. Personally, I think yes, we have been left in charge of the earth, but it's our responsibility to take care of it. A responsibility that we are for sure failing at. So ultimately, I think it's better to think about how we can help the planet and rally other people to take action instead of anti-natalism.
