Edison

Happy birthday to the man who said “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.”

And

“Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.”

And

“Five percent of the people think;
ten percent of the people think they think;
and the other eighty-five percent would rather die than think.”

Which echoes Bertrand Russell ("Most people would rather die than think, and in fact most do")
and William James ("A great many people think they are thinking when they are really just rearranging their prejudices").

Edison was a freethinker and a fan of Tom Paine, approvingly citing Paine's declaration that 'The world is my country; to do good my religion.'

  1. There is always something so special to me about that famous Edison quote. It doesn't matter what background you come from, the persistence and hard work his story en tales is very inspiring.

    "Most people would rather die than think, and in fact most do"

    It's a cliche quote, but It's funny how the more things change, the more they stay the same. People quickly jump to conclusions, when going a touch slower makes little time difference but gives you a good second or so to consider more than meets the eye

    A man who pathed the way for many inventors. He gave the technology industry a push start also!

  6. These men made statements about if we actually are free thinkers.

  7. After learning about his dynamic with Tesla, I just don’t trust anything about Edison. He seems like the one group member in a project that writes the topic sentence and then takes all of the credit. Section 6

  8. Just like another post on here, I’ll hit you guys with a cliche: hard work beats talent every time. The more work you put in, the more likely you are to succeed
