Good writing advice

Nigel Warburton (@philosophybites)
ICYMI, here’s my writing advice (which I need to take): 1000 words a day (I call this unit an ‘Updike’), read your writing out loud, cut your first draft introduction and rewrite it, go for a walk. Cut adverbs, passive constructions, jargon, and divide long sentences.

  1. Nigel hits the nail on the head here. This should be pinned up above every writer’s desk. Especially the walking part. My sentences tend to get very lengthy as I put them together. That’s another big piece of advice I could definitely benefit from following!
