Doesn't look like the scientists in this article want to speculate much about what it might mean, certainly no intimation that it could be a "Contact"-like overture from benevolent aliens. But youneverknow...
I think since the article stated that many of these FRB's are only emitted once, that it could be radiation emitted from exploding stars and planets in deep-space. This could explain how they are only received once and never again. As for the FRB that is emitting every 16 days, it should be our utmost priority, as a human race, to figure out what this signal is because it could possibly lead us to the next step in human evolution.
Nobody on this Earth can certainly say what they signals mean or where they came from. I do believe it can't be overlooked, but there is no need to speculate with radio signals as our evidence.
