Discussion Question
According Hecht quotes Clarence Darrow "The fear of God is not the beginning of wisdom" and then remarks that it is "the death of wisdom"
Now I know how a few will respond to this, so go for it, but lets be creative and sincere about our responses. So how do you feel about this statement and why do you feel that way?
I'm sort of split on the discussion question. For the most part I agree with it in that, if someone is to go towards a faith solely through fear, then they aren't really putting a thought process behind their movement towards faith. However, fear could potentially become a motivator for someone to delve into their mind and figure out what exactly they believe in and why they are afraid. For the most part, however, blindly following something or choosing things purely because you are afraid of what may happen if you don't is no way to live and does not promote any form of wisdom, but just makes you blind.
