Group 5 Section 16

sorry guys, I could not find our post so I decided to post one myself!
Our topic for tomorrow is over the poets. So my discussion is this: During the time period of all of these great poets, many were questioned as to their religious views if they were atheist. Many famous poets were called out for this including Emily Dickinson. The Poets section also goes on to talk about Emerson, Thoreau, and Fuller and how they believed more in nature. So the question is this, has atheism evolved? I believe that it has. I think that the philosopher around this time period were simply trying to cope with the fact that their faith was being tested with expansion of the new nation, accepting democratic ideals, and the industrial revolution. Also, Emerson and Thoreau, though they focused on nature they are said to have read the Vedas every day, which is a bible for the people of the Hindu faith. Furthermore, the only difference between them and Fuller was that Fuller was more open about being an abolitionist. She fought strongly for women's rights where as Emerson and Thoreau preferred the removed life of a philosopher. Our factual question can be a short answer as to simply naming one of the great poets of this time period. Example answers can be like Percy Bysshe Shelley or Emily Dickenson.

  1. So, I thought I'd make life easier (hopefully) and link to Shavangi's post since it basically covers last week's topic of the Poets. For tomorrow, we have Bertrand Russell. My questions for this are:
Factual: Who tried to prove the existence of God through natural laws? A. Bertrand Russell
Discussion: Do you agree with Russell's theory that everything, including God, must have a cause?
