Group 3 Section 16

Our group was assigned to read over Epictetus. Epictetus was a slave in Rome before becoming a Stoic philosopher in Greece. Epictetus' work concentrated almost exclusively on how to live. He encouraged his students to live the philosophic life according to virtue, reason, and nature. Thomas Jefferson admired the philosophy of Epictetus.
Epictetus ultimately believed that everyone should live happily, and to flourish. (true or false) answer: True.

Why did Thomas Jefferson admire Epictetus?

  1. there is more about Epictetus in our teachers blog post. I agree with Epictetus and Thomas Jefferson on the pursuit of happiness. i believe that everyone searches for happiness and that being happy is to flourish. if you are happy then you are satisfied so is well for you.
