Questions for Group 1, Section 1

Due to my absence on Thursday, I don't know who the group leader is and I don't really feel like waiting for he or she to post :)

Here are my questions for tomorrow's class:

Factual:
1. Maimonides was run out of Spain by a _________ sect for being _________.

A. Jewish, Muslim
B. Christian, Jewish
C. Muslim, Christian
D. Muslim, Jewish

Discussion:
Sometimes, I like to get a feel of people's opinions on certain quotes from the book or thoughts mentioned and then formulate a question around that. These are two things I found in my reading that I thought were of  interest:

-The more you negate God's attributes, the closer you'll get to him.
-"People need religion for political and emotional reasons..."

I'm not in your group nor your class but I would like to clarify something.
My background is from Spain and Morocco, and the Jews(I'm Jewish) in Spain were ordered to leave, convert or die by the Crusaders, or the Christians who invaded Spain in 1492 and ended the Andalousi Empire. So the Muslims and the Jews were kicked out to Morocco because they did not want to convert to Christianity. My ancestors were from Spain and got kicked out to Morocco.
So to answer your factual question, No the Jews were NOT run out by the Muslims from Spain, it's actually both the Muslims and the Jews were run out BY THE CHRISTIANS from Spain
    Shalom.

  2. Just to clarify, my factual question is a direct quote from the book. It's no reflection of my opinions or beliefs. However, I will do some more research on the topic because so far so this topic, I have only read the passages in Doubt so that's all I know on the topic.
Most importantly, I'm sorry if I offended you or your ancestry, I most certainly didn't mean to, I was merely quoting directly from the book!
    :)

  3. Factual:
Q: What Jewish mystical movement took off in response to Maimonides and other Jewish rationalist philosophers?
    A: Cabala

    Discussion:
How did Maimonides claim to follow the Jewish religion, yet basically denounced God? Or did he?
