I like the idea of doing Joseph Campbell as a topic of identity.
ReplyDeleteThe Power of Myth (TV Show) and / or Hero with Thousand Faces.
"Follow your bliss..."
DeleteAfter falling down a YouTube Watts hole. I would like to make this my topic. Following my bliss as always.
DeleteI think I'm going to do "The Once and Future Liberal by Mark Lilla
ReplyDeleteThat or "Listen, Liberal: Or, What Ever Happened to the Party of the People?" by Thomas Frank
DeleteI also liked Frank's "What's the Matter With Kansas"...
DeleteLet me know if you need the library copy of Lilla's book.

ReplyDeleteWas thinking of of doing something regarding military/warrior identity and the transition form the high intensity of armed conflict to the sedate civilian environment. Recent films and(The Hurt Locker) and old ones (The deer hunter) as well many books talk about 5his. I stumbled on the book Tribe: on Homecoming and Belonging by Sebastian Junger. This books starts with the closeness of small units in the cauldron of war but extrapolates to society in large touches on something Pete was mentioning in class on how disconnected we are becoming with our fellow citizens.
ReplyDeleteGood. Maybe I'll then better understand your choice of Napoleon for role-model!
ReplyDeleteI would like to do the film,"Boyhood". I think it gives an interesting perspective on Identity and how it changes from puberty to young adulthood.
ReplyDeleteJohn Locke vs. Thomas Reid on personal identity. I found this to be an interesting topic.
