Calvin the nihilist

What ever happened to the innocence of childhood?

  1. Calvin and Hobbes,
Whatever happened to Bill Watterson? It was interesting to learn the source of his comic strip characters. The commenter on one of his books quoted John Calvin. “When God wants to judge a nation, He gives them wicked rulers,” and Thomas Hobbes, “The condition of man…is a condition of war of everyone against everyone.” As he noted, Watterson could distil tomes into a couple of frames about philosophical and sociological thoughts that were funny and insightful.

F1: Calvin,"I was reading about how countless species are being pushed toward extinction by man's destruction of forests."
F2: Calvin, "Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.
