Red, white, blue and black...

According to several studies, Trump has not only remade the Republican party but his extreme positions are also responsible for the Democratic party's move leftward on racial issues.

  1. Art,
Thanks for finding the article. I found it related to Coulmas's discussion about identity politics and group identity. When you view firmly committed supporters for any candidate, it seems that they consider their identity linked in to the candidate and his/her supporters and to a conservative or liberal ideology even if what is presented to them is sometimes irrational just because they hear the word and don't question. I remember a late night show where they interviewed people, stated the opposite of the philosophy to see people's reaction. For example, made a statement like Conservative members of Congress believe that more of the budget should be spent on welfare. It was surprising to hear people who professed to be conservatives say they agreed. Same thing with liberals. What's also interesting is to see how the two parties have evolved over the last one hundred years regionally.
