Who am I?

Good morning! I wrote this up, and now I'm not quite sure what to do with it. So I'll just take the leap and post it.

Who am I? I'm an educator, artist, and activist.

I grew up in a religious household. My father is a retired Baptist minister, so I was in church every time the doors were open, and sometimes when they weren't. After much struggle, I'm an atheist now.

I'm a father with two daughters in their twenties of whom I'm incredibly proud. Both are artists. One is an art director at a major Nashville agency. The other uses her talents in any number of ways including; baking cakes that double as works of art, painting, photography and restoring a 100-year-old home that she and her boyfriend bought last fall in Old Hickory.

I am a husband, soon married for 36 years but we will have been together for 40 years.

I'm an eldest son dealing with parents who are now in memory care. My father has dementia, and my mother suffers from Parkinson's and dementia. I have to manage their affairs and listen to their crazy stories.

More often than not, I stick to a vegetarian diet but being a Southerner, I can't always resist BBQ or fried chicken.

I'm a political junkie, and as I've grown older, my politics have grown more radical. I consider myself to be a socialist these days.

I love to travel and feel like it has shaped me and opened my mind.

I enjoy most all genres of music.

I'm a dog lover with two adorable ones at home — a Shih Tzu and an Aussie Doodle (Australian Shepherd and Poodle mix).

I appreciate good bourbon and wine but will drink most anything set down before me.

I feel like we are all here by random chance, but I strive to be the best human I can be.
