Chuck Palahniuk - 3/4 - Pola Kopieniak

Chuck Palahniuk

Now, I'm sure everyone is wondering why I chose him as my topic for this project, so here are my reasons why.

This man, is my favorite author because of his deep and realistic view of the world. He picks the deepest and darkest depths anyone could ever think to imagine, digs it deeper, and somehow finds a twisted light to shed on the depressing situation. He satire way of writing picks people off their feet and gets them into wanting to read more.

Chuck Palahniuk, though not a philosopher, has to be my favorite. He has this view on the world that is unlike most. In my last post, I'm going to quote a few of my favorite quotes and describe the philosophy behind them. Palahniuk's basic philosophy is that no matter how hard life is, it will go on. Another one I think he pushes in his novels is that your belonging will eventually control you if you let them.

There are always beautiful underlying messages Palahniuk tries to send in his novels that many people miss, such as in Fight Club, where the message (that I believed to be) was as such;

  • Do not let what you think your life should be consume you and who you really are.

What many people got from this novel was;

  • Fighting makes everything better
  • Cause mayhem
  • Worship Tyler Durden (a main character of Fight Club)
Palahniuk fans, such as myself, should see Palahniuk as a maybe not a philosopher, but at least as a man with a good philosophy and intentions.
