Ch. 19 - Git Up, Git Out...

"N***a, you need to git up, git out and git somethin'
Don't let the days of your life pass by
You need to git up, git out and git somethin'
Don't spend all your time tryin' to get high"
"You need git up, git out and git somethin'
How will you make it if you never even try
You need to git up, git out and git somethin'
'Cuz you and I got to do for you and I"
- Outkast
Whether you walk or you trot...you need to get off your John Brown hind parts. Life is meant to be realized, not philosophized. Walking for a philosopher allows him/her to realize what life is about through a physical manifestation. A manifestation that allows one to seize control and direct their path.
Gros argues that a trot may not be as fulfilling as a walk, but what if my problem is not as complex? What if my problem is brought to conclusion by an interaction that occurs during my trot? I think that Gros is missing the point and should consider the spirit of walking. Walking, in its purest form, requires one to remove himself or herself from a stationary position to a kinetic position. This act not only spurs the body, but also the mind. Now when the mind is spurred, then the rest of the body aligns itself accordingly.
Which is why I selected this song from Outkast. When you examine the words in the chorus of this song, one is left with the need to active their mind and their body. One cannot accomplish the goals of the day from the confines of your seat. Life must be met on its playing field. So get off your arse!

Also, this little nugget is still relevant today! *Yes, I am talking about you Sheriff Clarke & Dr. Carson!*
"Y'all tellin' me that I need to get out and vote, huh, why?
Ain't nobody black runnin' but crackers, so why I got to register?
I thinkin' of better shit to do with my time
Never smelled aroma of diploma, but I write the deep ass rhymes"
- Outkast

  1. Great, Brandon. You should pick up a copy of "Hip Hop & Philosophy," you could probably add a chapter or two!
