Section 11 group 4. Jared khan final post #2

Many of the Deists views also are contained in Naturalism. Naturalism refers to the viewpoint that there are no supernatural forces in the world. There are only laws of nature that operate in the universe and that nothing else exists outside of that natural universe. Naturalists say that the universe is a product of the natural laws that govern the behavior of the universe. A philosopher named Paul Kurtz said that nature is best accounted for by material principles. The material principles are chemical properties such as mass and energy.

Naturalists do not believe in spirits or ghosts as they are not a product of the natural world and that there is no purpose in nature. Metaphysical naturalism is also called Ontological naturalism and philosophical naturalism. It is a belief system that says that there is nothing but natural elements, principles, and relations of natural sciences and that to understand our physical environment we should use mathematical modeling. Metaphysical naturalism does not accept the supernatural ideas or rituals that are apart of many religions. Naturalists who consider naturalism in working methods without considering it as an absolute truth is called methodological naturalism. Methodological naturalism is concerned with the methods of learning what nature is. Thales was one of the first naturalists and considered to be the father of science. He used science to give explanations to natural events without the use of supernatural causes. Now that we have discussed naturalism, we are able to see many of the similarities between Deism and Naturalism. It is not difficult to understand why deists share many of the beliefs that naturalists do. They both believe that the only laws of nature that operate within the universe are the natural laws of nature that we have experienced so often in our lives.
