Philosophy and The Typical Student (Pre, Present, Post—College)—Allison McCullough Final Blog Post 3

Where I am now is not where I thought I would have been right out of high school.  If you told me I could go back and do it all over again, I would in a heart beat.  (that’s why I’m going to grad school) Much like high school, this is a huge step in my life that’s going to change the rest of my life.  See the trend?  This is exactly what I thought coming out of high school.

I feel like even though we have these big events happen like graduation and getting married, there’s always going to be these realization points of “What am I going to do next?”  Where am I going to go?  What am I going to do?  This whole time throughout your life you’ve had at least one person to tell you probably what you should do.  You should probably go to college.  You should probably get an A on that test.  You should probably start looking for a job now.  So now I reach the time in my life where I’m not guided and I start my own life…by myself.

My perception on what I was going to do has changed plenty of times starting the first day of college.  I changed my major four times and still don’t know what I’m going to do til this day once I get out of college.  It’s a tough decision and that’s why I urge everyone to find their inner self now.

This class has impacted me in many ways.  I listen to more people and their ideas.  Everyone in this class is so diverse and even if you do get a little mad one day at least you heard what they had to say.  You take what you want away from the conversation regardless.  I believe that I have become more open minded on a lot of topics I have never really wanted to talk about what so ever.  Forced conversation is sometimes the best conversation.

As a senior graduating in May, I will encourage everyone to find what they want to do.  Do the research!  Don’t wait to figure out your life goals or your mission statements or even what you want to do in your life because sometimes unfortunately it’s too late.  It’s too late to try and figure it out and it only gets more complicated as the years go on.  Be successful and surround yourself with positive people because negativity gets you nowhere.

Don’t regret one day of your life and live it to the fullest.  Talk to people!  They’ll change your life :)
