Yes, and I have questions. Adult Halloween didn’t exist, certainly not for straight people, until the 1980s. Did any people who became adults before the 80s take it up then? And for Adult Halloweeners for whom there was no gap, i.e. people under 50, at what age do/will you stop? https://t.co/elD7WTneb4— Kurt Andersen (@KBAndersen) October 27, 2019

Halloween, not just for kids anymore

I think Halloween is more fun for the little ones because of the candy but Halloween is more then that or it was for me growing up. It was about dressing up and seeing who had the best costume. Today, not being a kid, it allows me to dress up and feel young again. I may not get candy but I still have fun with my friends while I can because one day I will be to old to do it. ReplyDeleteHalloween for kids and adults is basically two different holidays.

ReplyDeletePersonally, I love dressing up in weird costumes. Halloween is the ONE time of year I get to do that. I think once I graduate college, I wont dress up until I have kids but right now it is still fun to dress up and have fun parties with friends!
I think people can take it way too far when it's for the kids. especially the single adults that still go door knocking...

I think if we treat halloween as a cultural event it should be find if all ages celebrate halloween. Adulthood != to being boring.

Halloween is not a holiday for children exclusively and it never was. Adults have dressed up across the world for centuries... Day of the Dead/All Saints day in Mexico, Carnival in Europe, and many Celtic cultures dress up as well. The only reason we think of it as a children's holiday is because America has forgotten why we actually celebrate halloween, reducing it down to a 2-3 hour candy collection. It's sad.
