(11) Riley Hammond Different Types of Meditation Final Post #2

When you think of meditation... what do you picture? Someone sitting down, legs crossed, arms out, making various noises? As that may be one style of meditation, none of that is required to access the benefits of meditation. For me, meditating is simply being somewhere in a closed space, alone, in peace and quiet. It is then that I have the time to reflect on my day, all of the interactions I had, what I got accomplished, what events provoked specific emotions, etc. The thought process comes naturally, and initially it is a very easy process.

However, once you get in the routine of cycling through these questions to ask yourself, the difficult part arises... letting GO of it all. You have to concentrate on your mind and body, your chest moving with each breath. Any emotion that arises out of you, either left over from that day or sometime before, you must try to let go of it. Lingering on any emotional state other than euphoric happiness is considered counter-active in my book.

After letting go of any emotion or thought tied to the world around you OTHER than your own mind/body- you can reach a different state of consciousness. Just like with the possibilities of lucid dreaming, you can unlock a door to your mind that has been there all along! And the information you acquire about yourself as well as the world that surrounds you is incomparable knowledge to the "education" we get in school.

This will lead directly into my next post- the rewards you receive for meditation and how they can and will be useful to you for the rest of your life. The possibilities are endless, it's just a matter of accessing them.
