Section 13 Group 2 9/11/2012
Today our group discussed the philosopher Epicurus. The main point of focus was rather we should fear death or not? Is it death we fear? Or is it how we will die/the process of dying? Or is it what will happen after? We all agreed that death should not be feared, but easier said than done. Another topic discussed was how people with 'epicurean' views today, are not really what Epicurus believed himself. And lastly we talked about his theory that everything is made up of atoms.

Great discussion last meeting. Epicurus' idea of not fearing death seems like a good notion, however I find it hard to follow. Now on to Cicero. He seems similar to Epicurus in that we should accept death as a part of dying, and his views appeal a bit more to me.
ReplyDeleteTrue or False- Cicero was a lawyer and a politician.
Discussion question- Do you agree with Cicero's notion that friendship and conversation can replace physical pleasure for old people?
