Voting registration deadline FEB 3

A note from Professor Evins and the American Democracy Project:

Please tell your students, Mon., Feb. 3 – two weeks away – is the deadline to register to vote Super Tuesday, Mar. 3, in the presidential primary. Any Tennessee student who resides in Rutherford County for school (is not a daily commuter) may vote in Rutherford County. A Tennessee driver’s license is required to register and vote; any TN DL works fine for voting in Rutherford. Remind students, in Tennessee we can only vote in the county in which we’re registered. Therefore, registering where we can vote easily on election day is wise planning. Students already registered, in another TN county, may want to register in Rutherford for ease of voting this winterOut-of-state students who reside in Rutherford County may also vote here, with federal ID such as their passport. They however may not register online but instead with a paper form: Come to the ADP office in HONR 221 and we’ll assist them. For the Super Tuesday election, Early Voting is Wed., Feb. 12-Tues., Feb. 25, 2020. Of the Early Voting locations in Murfreesboro, easiest for our students is likely the Election Commission office on the square, across from the courthouse. On Mar. 3 Super Tuesday election day, a convenient voting center close to campus is at Central Magnet School, 701 East Main Street. Please make the University’s voter registration link available to your classes. Its URL is https://www.mtsu.edu/amerdem/register-to-vote.phpif you can include it in your syllabus.

Students still registered out of county and out of state students may of course vote by absentee ballot, which they will need to request immediately.

And:

The statewide universities’ Tennessee Student Civic Summit, Fri., Feb. 21, is at MTSU this year. Encouraging and facilitating your classes’ registration for the day-long student voting summit, right on our own campus, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students and campus community. Please assist your students’ participation. Contact ADP for more information, amerdem@mtsu.edu.

Thank you for putting civic learning in the forefront as we start an important election year.

Sincerely,
Mary
