Rumors

FYI: This did happen... (WSMV)

But the rumor a student passed along about Peck Hall being at imminent risk of sliding into a sinkhole remains unconfirmed. Don't believe everything you hear. Or think.

I really like the "Don't believe everything you think". I may be thinking into this too deeply but for example your feelings can really cloud or judgement. So, I do try not believing everything I think in the moment before taking a step back.

I do not entirely believe what I hear. Rumors are after all rumors. Though it does depend on where the information comes from. I am more willing to trust a friend than a random website online.

  3. Not to invalidate this but most of the time rumors do come from somewhere. It’s more a matter of how to determine the truthful portions. What is a lie vs what is merely hogwash. Lies mix with truth and becomes dangerous because things are no longer black and white.

    1. This relates to an essay I read during English called “on bullshit” by Harry Frankfurt.

That's true. It's hard to find hard cut lies and truths. The world is so many shades of grey and almost never black and white.

  6. I agree that we shouldn't believe everything we think, especially considering our thinking is the direct influence of our various environments. But we shouldn't dismiss rumors or random thoughts, either. Dig a bit deeper! Research and reflection are some of the best tools an individual has.
