Science Truth of Fiction?

  1. I re-watched "Contact" last night for the first time in years (except for that opening sequence, which I've often shown to classes)... the alien intelligence depicted there sounded very much like this one. Compassionate but wary, unable or unwilling to "save us from ourselves," in Carl Sagan's pale blue dot expression. Not inclined "to serve man" (as the Twilight Zone imagined).

    1. That is, not inclined to serve us up on a platter... but perhaps serving us best by keeping their distance, encouraging our species to grow and become worthy of inclusion in a galactic civilization. Prime Directive etc.
