Green Dragon closed

I know that Phil has also enjoyed a pint or two here so I thought I'd share the sad news. The Minters are great people:

Green Dragon Pub and Brewery in Murfreesboro 'closed permanently'

Murfreesboro 'Lord of the Rings'-themed pub installs brewing system Nancy DeGennaro
The Green Dragon Pub and Brewery is "closed permanently," the owner confirmed.
Saturday was the final night of service for the beloved, affectionately known as the "Hobbit bar."

"The Dragon had a wonderful time serving the wonderful people of the 'Boro," owner Joe Minter said in a message to The Daily News Journal.
Kimberly Minter and Joe MInter the owners of the Green
Minter alluded to shift in the local dining scene as the reason for the closure.
"Despite our best efforts, we never could generate the sales volume necessary to turn a profit," Minter said. "Restaurants need (customers) all during the week, not just on weekends," added Minter, noting that while it seemed "packed" on the weekends, lack of business on weekdays made the struggle to stay afloat more difficult.

Green Dragon opened in early 2014, fulfilling a lifelong dream of Minter, a big fan of "The Lord of the Rings" author J.R.R. Tolkien. Two of Tolkien's main characters, Frodo and Bilbo Baggins, both embarked on adventures at age 50. So Minter took their lead and did the same, leaving his career with Home Depot for the unknown.

Nestled in the basement of an old creamery on West Main Street, the restaurant and brewery had an interior was reminiscent of Tolkien's imagined shire pub, with staff members that dress the part and rustic furnishings.

In 2017 Green Dragon began brewing beer, another dream realized by Minter.
There are no additional details surrounding the closing of the Green Dragon. So far, Minter has no plans to reopen the bar in another location.

  1. No-o-o!!! One less outpost of civility in this age of Deplorables. What remaining oases should we be patronizing before the same fate befalls them, Art? I don't know the M'boro pub scene well enough, living in N'ville. (I'm doing what I can to sustain Tailgate Brewery, near my home, in the old Moose Lodge on Charlotte Pike.)
