BIRGing, Bama, Tennessee 2009

Erin Tarver describes the collective experience of a dramatic events in sports in the beginning of chapter 2, “the effect is an emotional scene that has virtually no equal in contemporary life.”  She obviously has SEC football experiences.  I was at the 09 Bama Tennessee game for an emotional finish.  Bama was undefeated and vying for a national championship.  This third Saturday in October they were not playing good. UT was poised for the win with a last second field goal at very makable range.  100,000 people were on edge in Tuscaloosa.

How it looked on TV

How it felt like in the stands, I was a little to left of this position in the upper stands like you see across the field.

  1. The Church of SEC Football, right?

  2. In the only specific fan base I’ve seen Tarver single out, “Fans of the University of Alabama’s football team exhibit a borderline religious devotion to the Crimson Tide,”
