Being a hero

Sometimes we wonder how we would react in an emergency. We talked about this in class earlier this year and I think all of us are more capable of responding than we realize. Most of us wouldn't stop to ask what race, religion, or political party a person in need belonged to, we'd just help. This is the spirit that needs to be encouraged. In my driving class a participant said he recently witnessed a car flip over and in a matter of seconds multiple cars had pulled onto the shoulder and individuals from them raced to the car and together they flipped it upright. I could easily see any of you reacting the same way that this young man did or what those motorists did.

  1. Appreciate your confidence in our latent heroism, Don. That's what the subway hero said too, that he just did what anyone would have. I'm pretty sure that's not the case, there's no scenario in which I can see myself jumping in front of a moving train. Hope I never have to find out... like the Woody Allen character who posed the question: "What would you do if you happened upon a drowning person?" And answered himself: "I don't swim, so it would never come up."
