The meaning of philosophy

                                                                   The Meaning of philosophy
In this report I am going to discuss the meaning and the importance of philosophy. I am also going to discuss how asking philosophical questions affect our society.  All of us knows that the meaning of philosophy is the love of wisdom. According to Aristotle philosophy begin with Wonder. By wondering everything around you and start questioning why I am here or asking about the nature. That is where philosophy come from. Started with some basic human questions and wonders. According to Isaiah Berlin there are two categories for the questions that we ask, and we answer the question depends on the category. The two categories are formal questions and empirical questions. Formal questions are these that can be answered by means of deduction from our understanding of axiomatic truths. It is about thinking logically. Empirical questions are the questions that can only be answered by an observation like numbers, calculation, and studies. There are some questions that cannot be answered by formal or empirical like why should I worry about my life or livingOr why is life worth living? In this case we need to know how important life is. According to Berlin to answer these questions we must know and understand the value of our life. We cannot be observed values. Answering that question require critical thinking about questions which includes whether or not existence is normally most advantageous to non-existence, the relationship between demise and non-existing, the significance of struggling, and the importance of individual autonomyPhilosophy is very important because it helps our society to function and think that is how scientists discover new thing every day and figure out answers about these questions that we ask. This is how we knew everything we know today about the universe today. It is very important to ask.
The importance of asking questions. We learn a lot form asking for example the only way children learn is by asking about the world around them. Questioning makes us wiser and open to new ideas. For example, if we think about kids in school when they ask questions there are kids that like to get the answer that they to pass the exam or the test and there are kids that like to go in depth and keep asking questions until the teacher answers all their questions. You can predict by looking at this example who is going to be smarter and more successful. When we think about how philosophy started the first thing we think of is a problems and philosophers helps us to look at it instead of ignoring it by asking questions and each look at it in different ways to help to solve it.  There is two ways you can ask questions and get to know about it or you can ignore it by saying I don’t care. You can limit your knowledge by saying I don’t care and you can also discover new things by asking questions.

  1. "All of us knows that the meaning of philosophy is the love of wisdom." All of us actually does not.

"We cannot be observed values." What does this mean?

"you can also discover new things by asking questions" - indeed.

  2. I can only agree with what you said. It's a refreshing way of looking at philosophy especially dividing them into two kinds of question; formal and empirical questions. I have had a hard time questioning things because for some of them, I can't get the answers. By looking it that way, I think it is easier. We have to accept that some things we will never know the origin of it, why it happened, and the cause of it. I also like how you emphasized on why it is important to always ask questions. I believe that's the most natural way of how humans can become better. Hope you have a nice day!
