2nd Installment: What does one perceive to be unethical? Continued
This section will be rather difficult for me to argue but I will try my best…
Now, let’s talk about the less than a quarter of the population that believes animal slaughter is unethical. When it comes to humans, yes murder is illegal. Why is it not that way for animals? They live and breathe just like us. They have minds, hearts, and personality just like us. But they can not speak. So, should we call them impaired?
This is why people who non- meat eaters speak out for the animals since they are unable. I personally own cattle, horses, chickens, and other animals, so I get it. We love our furry friends and want the best for them. Animals are beautiful creatures and deserve more than what they get half the time. But then again going back to the lifecycle of living things, they were put here for various reasons, and one I believe is to provide food. Some claim humans can live off of a completely plant-based diet, however you would have to eat 3 times as much in veggies to receive the amount of vitamins in 6 oz. of steak.  There are claims that the animals are emotionally abused, raising animals is bad for the environment blah, blah ,blah. Coming from an agriculture specialist, these are false claims. The Humane Act of 1925 ensures the wellbeing of the animal pre-slaughter and during slaughter and if animals are so environmentally destructive, why do they exist? Humans are way more destructive than any animal, am I right?
Though it seems we, as a society, have evolved into doing everything for our health and the environment, we must take a step back. Animals have been in the human diet for a very long time and saying plants are what we really should eat is not a valid argument. Stealing, murder, and abortion are unethical things, but trying to survive in the ecosystem is completely ethical.  I have tried to wrap my head around the aspect of a meatless diet, but in all honesty that will never happen.
I believe this world has become more innovative and I don’t doubt that we will figure out other alternatives to meat. There is tofu now and the latest experiment “vitro” meat which is genetically tampered with on so many levels, but you can grow meat without killing the animal to get it! Sounds Yummy! It is clear what my opinion on this matter but what do you guys think? Do you believe killing animals for food is unethical? If you had to choose, would you go vegan or is meat life?
