Charles Darwin- Part 2

Darwinism or the Theory of Evolution is what Charles Darwin is probably best known for. Nowadays it probably seems obvious that evolution is real, but in the 1800s nobody had thought of this. Now Darwinism is a little more complex than what we all think of when we think of evolution. We can look around at animals and see that they have physically evolved over time. Birds have different beaks based off of where they live and what their diets consist of. Some birds have long, skinny beaks that are good for getting nectar out of flowers. Others have short, sharp beaks that are good for tearing into mammals and eating meat. In my opinion, we did not come from monkeys, but it is a common thought to think that over time we have done just such. There is science that has supporting evidence for evolution. Monkeys and humans have unbelievably similar DNA. Physically, they even look similar. Darwin was ahead of his time with his beliefs because he did not have the scientific equipment to really test that like we do in today's time. He was just strictly basing his theory off of the physical appearances of these animals, and using his five senses to make his best judgments. Darwin's four rules for evolution were as follows: Each generation, more of the species will be better fit to survive, phenotypic variation exists and is hereditary, the ones with the traits that are better for their environment are more likely to survive, and lastly, when reproductive isolation occurs, new species will form (Wikipedia helped with that part). Evolution obviously is not a quick process, and it takes many, many generations of a species over long periods of time for evolution to take place. This is why Darwin thought we came from a common ancestor with monkeys. Over time we adapted and evolved to best fit our environment and what was best for survival. To me, this seems unlikely as there is still monkeys today and we are so far and beyond superior to them that I do not think it would makes sense that we evolved so drastically different than they did. They communicate and what not as well, but no where near on the level that we do. Darwin was a brilliant mind and he was on to something with his theory, but personally, I think he definitely missed some things. I do not think we would be so much more intelligent than the rest of the monkey species if that was the case. Neanderthals are considered our ancestors, and that makes a lot of sense sense they look so much like us with slightly different bone structures and much higher levels of intelligence. The evolution between us now and Neanderthals is so much easier to see and traceable. The DNA evidence between us and monkeys is hard to argue with, but I just find it hard to believe from an intelligent standpoint, mainly. Seeing us be so superior to monkeys is what makes me think we did not evolve from them. You don't see big gaps like that in any other species.

  3. "in the 1800s nobody had thought of this" - actually, his own grandfather had thought of it... and Alfred Russell Wallace... and in antiquity some Epicurus and others sorta did. But you're right, nobody'd put it together and documented it so painstakingly before CD.

"hard to believe from an intelligent standpoint"-What?
