I have also questioned my own religion, and seeing your perspective was interesting as well. I never knew that Buddhists worshipped a being, as you say. I might look more into the links you have set out. Also, I thought the comic was funny.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02355131488484301273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2619743764213415433.post-62990971505958565822016-11-30T19:21:10.569-06:002016-11-30T19:21:10.569-06:00Excellent! I do wonder, though, if the appropriate stance for Buddhists towards the Buddha is worship or reverence, or admiration and respect, or what exactly. Our heroes should inspire our own excellence, and our confidence that we possess the capacity to achieve it. They should not reinforce a sense of our inferiority and subservience, which seems inescapably implied by such terms as worship and reverence. I like "appreciation" anmd gratitude better too.

The candle analogy is very interesting. "...imagine a line of candles, using the first to light the second, the second to light the third... He then asked if the flame on the last candle is the same flame as the first. Of course, in some sense it is, and in some sense it isn't. It is to this degree, the Buddha suggested, that we are reborn..." Your explanation definitely piques my interest in learning more about the philosophy.

Also, I agree that it is hard to wrap my head around the idea of reincarnation. It is not scientific at all, but I do wonder why so many Buddhists believe in this aspect.Andrew Towlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15167034179482701222noreply@blogger.com
