Pull the plug

Some "transhumanists" and futurists think it's our destiny to merge with our machines and become a hybrid species. Is that already happening? If so, I recommend getting outside ASAP and going for a long walk. Unplugged.

"...within several decades information-based technologies will encompass all human knowledge and proficiency, ultimately including the pattern-recognition powers, problem-solving skills, and emotional and moral intelligence of the human brain itself.”

Electronics are 100% taking over the world. We rely on our phones/computers every day to do very small tasks that we can do on our own. I sometimes believe i was born in the wrong generation. Don't get me wrong, I love my phone just as much as everyone else in this generation, but i defiantly wish they did not exist.

It's very interesting that there is a group of people that actually want to merge machines and humans together considering most people want the opposite of that.

A question I always wonder is, why do we want machines to be like us? They can already beat master players in games. They can process information faster than any other form of intelligence. What advantage would emotions add to the skill set of a machine?

  4. I wonder if they'll effect people in future generations and if they are promoting less emotion. sec11

  5. I have friends who think this is the way of the future, that integrating tech and humanity will usher in a new age of medicine and longer lives. I disagree that it will be a desirable thing though. I hold the belief that once I am old I will get tired, and I will not want to be kept alive like a slave. I want to die and move on to whatever is next. I want to live this life as I was made, without modifications. Sensors to track well being are ok, ones that are external or can be taken off. Once it is inside me I will opt out.

  6. Yahoo made an artificial intelligence that started speaking to other computers in a language it had made up, and the scientists couldn't decode it so they had to pull the plug just in case.
