Goals

That's my goal: keep on exploring, with bright and engaging students and lifelong learners like yourselves. Good luck with your goals! Maybe we can meet up at the Boulevard or someplace and you can fill me in on how that's going. Meanwhile, if you have thoughts about this course or suggestions for future ones, please share. Possibilities abound!
"What has concluded, that we might conclude in regard to it? There are no fortunes to be told, and there is no advice to be given—Farewell." William James, A Pluralistic Mystic
But there is this advice: keep on learning, and expanding your identity (your us and your we), and resisting terror and untruth... as the pluralist David Brooks says.

And "keep your health, your splendid health. It's better than all the truths in the firmament." (Swiped that from James too.)

  1. I have enjoyed this class and have learned from everyone. I wish I had just a little more time to read and study the posts. When you get older you realize how precious time is. Over the last few years I have enjoyed exploring new things. I am glad MTSU gave me a chance. I could have sat around and done nothing but I often think of Red's quote in the Shawshank redemption "Get busy living or get busy dying," and Andy Dufresne's advice to him "Remember, Red, hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies." May each of as you quoted William James "keep our health" and stay involved as Dr. Piers Sellers did in his last message to the world - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVkZz49PxIA

    1. Piers Sellers' last message is golden, I hope enough of us are listening.

I do hope, and am inclined to believe, that no good thing ever entirely dies. My daughter is a big Toni Morrison fan, she said on Ms. Morrison's passing that a light had left us. I'm quite sure that the light she and other luminous thinkers/artists/creators share survives.

Thank you, Don, for your tremendous contributions to our class and for the light of your example in deciding not to do "nothing" and to stay busy living. Carry on!

Don, you might appreciate this Garrison Keillor essay:

"...My life is good enough. Every day is incredibly precious. When you reach 77, you’ll feel the same way. It’s a shame that a con man is in the White House as the Arctic is melting and white nationalists are shooting up our cities, but we’ll be okay, we just need a Trexit vote next year..." http://www.garrisonkeillor.com/someday-youll-understand-what-im-telling-you/
