What is the 95 Theses??
 - initially called the "Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences.
- It was 95 points om how indulgences are wrong and had religious scriptures to back his statements
- He knew by writing the 95 Theses he could be excommunicated by the Catholic Church
-  An ongoing theme in 95 theses is that no one can reach salvation by giving money the true way to reach forgiveness is by accepting the punishment

S                     Some 95 Theses that I liked           -Theses                                                                                             Theses Seven                                                                                                             -“Go never remits guilt to anyone without at the                                                                                      same time humbling him in total submissions to                                                                                              the priest, his representative”                                                                                                    -Thoughts- the easy way would be paying someone but                                                                   true forgiveness comes from repentance and by accepting                                                                                      judgment/punishment                                                                        

                                                               Theses Twenty-seven                                                                                          "They preach man made doctrines who say that it’s so soon as the coin jingles                                                               into the money box, the soul flies out of purgatory.”                              Thoughts- This was a reference to Tezel who was employed to sale indulgence                                                  and even made a jingle out of it ( like it was a sales pitch)                                                                                            The jingle was, " As soon as the money in the chest rings, a soul for from the                                                                                 purgatory springs."                                                                               This theses suggest this Doctrine didn't come from God in-fact it was man-made 

                                                               

                                                              Theses Two                                                                                      "This word cannot be understood as referring to the sacrament of penance,                                    that is, confession and satisfaction, as administered by the clergy."

                          Thoughts-  Only God can give salvation-- Not a priest                                                                      

                                                              Thesis Seventeen------------------------------------------------------------  "It seems as though for the souls in purgatory fear should necessarily decrease

                                                      and love increase." 

          Thoughts- Do not feat God but rather love him and you will be less likely to sin. True                              salvation is not achieved by having the mindset of  fearing God. 

Summary: 

          The 95 theses was a dramatic approach to show that the selling of indulgences to                                  renovate St.Peter's is wrong. A major point that Luther wanted to express was 

that the Pope has nothing to do with purgatory or the forgiveness of your sins. 

Another major point Luther wanted to make was that you can never reach salvation

By buying indulgences. Indulgences give a false sense of security, and that  no real 

Christian will buy an indulgence to repent but rather they would seek repentance from God.
