You're boldly going into the thickets of the technical consciousness-studies literature here, Sarah. Good luck! For my part, I find the field littered with more obfuscating complexity than is always illuminating. My view: consciousness, as a process of experience, is unified by memory and anticipation. When we lose either of those, we lose our grip on consciousness AS the anchor of our own experience.
