The Last Class, My Final Article

This is our last class! I can't say i'm not excited for the end of class because that just means a huge break until next semester. However, I have enjoyed this class and the topics discussed in it. Because this is the last article that i will be posting, I think i would like to just reflect on class throughout the semester. This class has been amazing for me when reading about philosophy and discussing it among my classmates. i wish the course of philosophy could go on because and I could have at least one day a week to discuss different philosophical matters along with my peers because I truly love philosophy. Although, I have not really come up with new ideas on my own throughout this semester, I have learned and taken a liking to different philosophical ideas from different philosophers. Another important thing about this class that i have enjoyed was definitely the peripatetic aspect. I deeply enjoyed walking outside with my classmates with the sole purpose of thinking and discussing ideas. Having these peripatetic principles impressed on me has changed how i think. Whenever i am moving or walking for the sake of walking, I now find myself deep in thought and i enjoy that. That is most definitely the thing i am going to miss most about this class. Now it is time to say goodbye to this class and to greet the end of what was a wonderful semester. I wish everyone a  Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays for those of you who prefer and a Happy New Year!! Good luck to all and thank you to our professor, Phil Oliver, who did a great job finding interesting philosophers to research and learn about!

  1. I am glad you have enjoyed the class so. I did not really have this same experience until we got into reading Plato at the Googleplex. I guess Philosophy just isn't really my thing.

    1. Philosophy's everybody's thing, though not everybody's equally into it. As my pal James said, quoting GK Chesterton, "'There are some people - and I am one of them -who think that the most practical and important thing about a man is still his view of the- universe. We think that for a landlady considering a lodger, it is important to know his income, but still more important to know his philosophy. We think that for a general about to fight an enemy, it is important to know the enemy's numbers, but still more important to know the enemy's philosophy. We think the question is not whether the theory of the cosmos affects matters, but whether, in the long run, anything else affects them.'

I think with Mr. Chesterton in this matter. I know that you, ladies and gentlemen, have a philosophy, each and all of you, and that the most interesting and important thing about you is the way in which it determines the perspective in your several worlds."

  2. Yes! This class has felt the most academically infused and truly in pursuit of intellectualism. Dr. Oliver is very dedicated to his subject.
