While many have resorted to harsh words and conflict as
their reaction to the recent election results, I feel that now, more than ever,
we should be coming together as a country to promote love. It is easy to view
this dispute on a surface level; putting those with different opinions in boxes
of “right” and “wrong.” It is easy to overlook the reasoning behind a
presidential preference that contrasts from your own. It is easy to name-call,
and to see only the negative traits of those who disagree with you. It is easy
to hate.
It is not always so easy to recognize the humanity in
others. We like to build walls (I’m sorry) between each other, and separate ourselves
according to beliefs, opinions, race, sexuality, etc. Now, with an election
result so surprising and controversial, it is easy to lose empathy for others.
It is imperative that we do not lose site of all of the things that connect us
to one another. Practice compassion, and love others regardless of their
beliefs.
I’ve recently been slightly obsessed with Alicia Keys’
new album, “Here.” There’s one song in particular that I feel is very relevant
today. “Holy War” encompasses everything I talked about above, and then some.
Take a listen.
“Music is the movement of
sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue.” - Plato
I agree, many people have become violent as a result of this election which is exactly the opposite of what should happen. Regardless of your opinions, hurting other people for their beliefs is not going to solve anything. We need to come together as a country, and not seperate H3
