Politics

In our reading on Socrates in Plato at the Googleplex, we find Socrates political views. Socrates refused to take any political stance at all and instead decided to ignore the politics and focus his attention elsewhere except for the instances where he would use the politics as a source of humor. As I read this, I looked at the first discussion question "Do you find it easy, or civically irresponsible, to shift your attention entirely away from the politics of the moment?". In answer to this question, I believe that it actually is comically irresponsible to shift one's attention away from the politics of the moment. The worst part about this being comically irresponsible is that it is very easy to shift attention away from politics and I find that many people do it very often.looking at Socrates, I believe that he was not really shifting his attention away from the politics though many would say he was, making him actually civically responsible or a good citizen, even though he was killed for his stances. Socrates's refusal and mockery of the politics of his time actually, I believe, was very important to the politics he so despised. In refusing and taking a stance against politics, he spread out a different opinion that possibly changed the politics of the time, if not immediately, then in the future, even though Socrates was inevitably killed for it.
